MANKATO, MN – As Minnesota State hosts the NSIC Indoor track & field championships in late February, the Wayne State College teams were in Mankato over the weekend.
The Mark Schuck/Minnesota State Open was held this past Friday and Saturday, January 31 – Saturday, February 1 in Mankato, Minnesota.
In the women’s ranks, WSC was led by Mikayla Marvin and Jordyn Pester both posting third place finishes.
Marvin placed third in the pole vault clearing 10’ 6” while Pester was clocked in 1:00.11 to place third in the 400-meter dash.
Mckenzie Scheil recorded a pair of fifth place finishes in the weight throw (59’ 44 ¼”) and shot put (43’ 10 ½”) while Kenzie Sullivan finished seventh in the shot put at 42’ 9”.
Joan Jelimo took sixth place in the 600-meter dash (1:41.33) while Riana Noelle collected a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 4 ¾”. Ali Dykman tied for sixth in the high jump clearing 5 ¼”.
Other Wildcat finishers were – Allie Rosener seventh in the 3,000-meter run (10:52.72), Keyla Sambo seventh in the long jump at 15’ 11 ¾”, Kim Johnson was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:26.67), Marin Jetensky placed eighth in the 600-meter dash at 1:43.12 and Jade Rickard posted an eighth place effort in the 3,000-meter run at 10:55.03 with Hanna Lazure tied for ninth in the high jump clearing 4’ 10 ¼”.
Wayne State’s 4 x 400-meter relay quartet of Pester, Jetensky, Jelimo and Brianna Crouch came in sixth place in a time of 4:13.00.
The Wildcat men were led by top three finishes from Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup in the weight throw, Bryce Holcomb in the 600-meter dash and Brock Hegarty in the 1,000-meter run.
Kalkowski and Kaup led a 2-3 finish for the Wildcats in the weight throw with marks of 64’ 1” and 61’ 1” respectively.
Holcomb recorded a second-place finish in the 600-meter dash (1:23.97) while Hegarty came in third place in the 1,000-meter run at 2:37.21.
Other top five finishes for the Wildcats came from Mikhail Sands in the long jump (21’ 3 ½”), Aaron English in the high jump (6’ 1 ½”) and Nathan Pearson in the 600-meter dash (1:24.33).
Ben Allen collected a sixth place finish in the shot put (49’ 7 ¾”), Preston Davis was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.79), Will McGonigal came in eighth place in the 3,000-meter run (9:17.46) and Nathan Hiemer was 10th in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:43.37.
The Wildcat 4 x 400-meter relay team of Davis, Holcomb, Michael Kueny and Pearson crossed the tape in eighth place with a time of 3:41.18.
The Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field team will next compete in the Husker Invite on Friday, February 7 – Saturday, February 8 in Lincoln.
