JOPLIN, MO – Members of the Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country program concluded their season in regional competition.

From the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri Saturday afternoon, WSC competed in the Central Region Cross Country Championships.

The Wayne State College women finished 27th out of 36 teams with 773 points while the Wildcat men took 26th place with a team score of 674 points.

Augustana captured the women’s title with 62 points and will advance as a team to the NCAA Division II National Championships along with second place Pittsburg State (120) and third place Minnesota State (127). Nebraska-Kearney edged Winona State 146-151 for fourth place. Minnesota Duluth came in sixth at 154 points with Northwest Missouri State (155), Rogers State (217), Sioux Falls (264) and Fort Hays State (266) closing out the top 10 teams.

Junior Kelsey Larsen was the top Wayne State runner placing 125th overall with a time of 23:24. The Walthill native was the top Wayne State finisher on the 6,000-meter course of out of 233 runners in the field. Kylie Pachta followed in 135th place at 23:34 with Lindsey Stuckey next in 147th place at 23:47.

Other Wayne State finishers were Alison Stineman (166th – 24:09), Brooke Solomon (203rd – 26:01), Maelee Beacom (211th – 26:12) and Faith Polacek (212th – 26:17).

In the men’s division, Missouri Southern edged Nebraska-Kearney 70-72 to capture the team with Augustana placing third with 99 points. All three teams advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, December 3. Rounding out the top five teams were Pittsburg State (127) and Washburn (157). Central Missouri was sixth at 195 points, just ahead of East Central at 196. Sioux Falls (276), Northwest Missouri State (285) and Minnesota Duluth (296) close out the top 10 teams.

Junior Brandon Mundorf was the top Wayne State finisher in 49th place overall to lead the Wayne State College men’s cross country team.

The Springview native (North Central HS), was the top Wildcat finisher on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course covering the 10,000-meter terrain in 30:48.1. Junior Titus Kiptoo was the next finisher for Wayne State in 137th place out of 209 runners at 32:34.0 with Abe Schroeder in 150th place in a time of 32:54.6.

Other Wildcat runners included Brandon Mitzel (169th – 33:38.6), Quentin Dreyer (173rd – 33:49.4), Will McGonigal (180th – 34:04.2) and Gabe Peitz (185th – 34:36.7).
