JAMESTOWN, N.D. – With 10 competitions listed on the Wayne State College club wrestling schedule, the Wildcats began their season with a trip north returning one medalist.

Hosted by Jamestown University in Jamestown, North Dakota, the ‘Cats joined several NAIA and NCAA Division II teams during the Jimmie Open on Saturday, November 3.

Individually for WSC, junior Gerald Kenkel (174) from Ogallala placed 6th to lead the team.

Other Wildcat wrestling results went to freshman Jordan Jensen (157) of Lemars, Iowa going 2-2 on the day, freshman Angel Rojo (285) from Schuyler picked up a pin as did transfer heavyweight Tyson Cisneros from Lincoln Pius X. Junior Hunter Weiss (149) from Beatrice secured a win and senior captain Matthew Reeves (141) of Battle Creek was also a winner by pin.

Wayne State wrestled against teams such as University of Mary, Minot State University, Northern State University, University of Jamestown, Dakota Wesleyan University, Concordia College and the University of Saskatchewan.

The WSC Club Wrestling Program is still in need of a few more light weights (125/133) and help with the 184/197-pound class. Contact coach Greg VanderWeil at grvande1@wsc.edu or stop by a practice on the stage of Rice Auditorium at 4:30 p.m. nearly every day as it’s not too late to join the team.

The Wildcat wrestlers will next compete in the Dakota Wesleyan University Open on Saturday, November 10 in Mitchell, South Dakota.
