MITCHELL, S.D. – For the second straight weekend, the Wayne State College club wrestling program competed on the road.
From Mitchell, South Dakota, WSC took part in the Dakota Wesleyan Open Saturday. Several top teams from NCAA Division II were on hand.
The top Wildcat performer came from junior Hunter Weiss, in the 174-pound weight class with two straight wins, falling one win away from a top six finish going 2-2.
Junior Ethan Fitzler at 157 (1-2) and junior Evan French at 285 (1-2) also recorded a win for Wayne State wrestling.
Other Wildcats who wrestled included junior Tommy Nelson (133), senior Matthew Reeves (141), freshman Jordan Jensen (157), sophomore Levi Honeywell (157), junior Gerald Kenkel (174), sophomore Austin Schuller (197), transfer Tyson Cisneros (285) and freshman Angel Rojo (285).
Opponents WSC battled were from Augustana, University of Mary, Southwest Minnesota State, Buena Vista, Briar Cliff, Jamestown, Northern State, Doane College, St. Cloud State and Concordia (Nebraska).
The Wildcat wrestlers will next travel to Kearney on Saturday, November 17 for the Nebraska-Kearney Open at 9 a.m. before taking a week off for the Holidays. December Opens include on December 1 in Storm Lake, Iowa and December 8 in Crete, Nebraska.
