WAYNE – With the NSIC Cross Country Championships slated to be held in Wayne next month, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team competed on their home course Friday.
From the Wayne Country Club, the Wildcat women’s team posted a second place finish with 47 points as did the men’s team with 52 points.
In the women’s division, Minot State captured the team title with 25 points followed by WSC in second at 47, Southwest Minnesota State third with 66 points, Bellevue University fourth at 79 points and Peru State fifth at 134 points.
Senior Allie Rosener was the top Wildcat runner, taking fifth in a field of 31 runners on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 20:07.
From the men’s division, Minot State topped Wayne State 28-52 for the team title with Bellevue University a close third at 53 points. Southwest Minnesota State (85) and Peru State (149) rounded out the team standings while South Dakota Mines had three runners compete in the event.
Hegarty was the top Wildcat runner with a ninth place finish on the 8,000-meter course with a time of 27:50 followed closely by McGonigal in 10th place just two hundredths of a second behind at 27:50.68.
The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team will be off until Saturday, October 9 during the Dordt Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa.
