Wildcat Beach Volleyball Goes 0-2 During Opening Day Of AVCA Small College Beach Championships

TAVARES, FL – Two pool play matches are in the books for the Wayne State College beach volleyball team during the Division II AVCA Small College Beach Championships.

From Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Florida, the Wildcats competed in an early Thursday morning match and then later in the evening.

Wayne State College suffered a 5-0 sweep falling to top-seeded Palm Beach Atlantic University (FL) Thursday morning and dropped a 4-1 match against Colorado Mesa University later in the day.

Wayne State College is now 11-5 on the season.

 

During the loss to PBA, the closest match for the Wildcats came in the #5 pairs where Rachel Walker and Maggie Brahmer went extra points before falling to Palm Beach Atlantic’s Gabriella Aziz and Emma Vann 21-12 and 25-23.

The #3 duo of Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek battled with PBA’s Julia Golichowski and Karla Cantero before falling 21-19, 21-16. Wayne State’s #2 pairing of Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick fell by scores of 21-10, 21-18 while the #1 duo of Taya Beller and Lauren Jacobsen suffered a 21-9, 21-10 setback. The 4’s group of Ally Beresford and Brooke Peltz lost in straight sets 21-12, 21-11.

In the 4-1 defeat to Colorado Mesa, Wayne State’s win came from Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek in the #3 match with a 21-19, 21-18 win. Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick in the #2 pairing fell in three sets by scores of 21-14, 19-21, 8-15.
