Wildcat Beach Volleyball Crowned Bronze Division Champions, Finish 2-0 On Saturday

WAYNE – Following a 1-3 start to the AVCA Small Collège Beach Championships, the Wayne State College beach volleyball program continued their Bronze Division Playoff competition.

Back at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Florida for a third consecutive day, WSC capped off their final day on Saturday in winning style.

Wayne State first began the morning with a 5-0 sweep against Catawba College (NC) (second win over Catawba College this weekend) before closing out with a 4-1 victory over Eckerd (FL) in the Bronze Playoff Final.

For the weekend, the Wildcats went 3-3 and won their final two matches to end the season with a 14-6 overall record.

In the sweep over Catawba College, two of the five matches went three sets.  Ally Beresford and Brooke Peltz rallied in the 4’s pairing to win 17-21, 23-21, 17-15 while the #5 pairing of Rachel Walker and Maggie Brahmer also rallied for a 12-21, 21-18, 15-9 victory.

The #1 pairing of Taya Beller and Lauren Jacobson went extra points in the second set to win 21-16, 22-20, Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick in the 2’s duo won easily 21-7 and 21-8 and the #3 duo of Isabelle Vacek and Jessie Brandl recorded a 21-11, 21-18 win.

During the Bronze Division Playoff final against Eckerd (FL), two of the three matches that were played went three sets. The #1 pairing of Taya Beller and Lauren Jacobsen collected a 21-18, 12-21, 15-12 win followed by another three set victory from the 2’s of Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick 21-17, 17-21, 15-9.

Wayne State’s #3 group of Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek fell in straight sets 21-15, 21-14 while the Wildcat #4 and #5 pairs each won by forfeit.
