Wildcat Beach Volleyball Continues To Win In Arizona, Close Out Spring Trip With Two-Time Defending NAIA Champions

MESA, AZ – With one more match closing out their spring break trip in Arizona, the Wayne State College beach volleyball team was back in action Thursday for two more outings.

From Gene Autry Park in Mesa, Arizona, the Wildcats competed against Benedictine University and Park University.

The Wildcats opened the day with a 4-1 victory over Benedictine Mesa of Arizona before sweeping Park University – Gilbert later in the afternoon. WSC is now 6-2 on the year, winning their sixth straight match in Arizona.

In the 4-1 victory over the Redhawks, the #1 pair of Lauren Jacobsen and Taya Beller started with a 2-0 win. In the #2 pairs match, the duo of Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick posted a sixth straight win with a 2-1 victory. Following a 2-1 loss in the 3’s dual by Rachel Walker and Jazlin DeHaan, the Wildcats closed the match with 2-0 sweeps by Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek in the 4’s and Ally Beresford and Brooke Peltz in the 5’s contest.

The exhibition match was also won by WSC as Maggie Brahmer and Beresford posted a 2-0 win.

During the 5-0 win against Park University Gilbert, four of the five contests in the match were Wildcat sweeps. The 4’s pairing of Jessie Brandl and Isabelle Vacek needed three sets to register a win while the other four pairings resulted in Wildcat sweeps – Taya Beller/Lauren Jacobsen at #1, Kelsie Cada/Jordan McCormick in the 2’s pairing, Rachel Walker/Jazlin DeHaan at #3 and Ally Beresford and Brooke Peltz as the 5’s duo.

The exhibition pairing of Peltz and Maggie Brahmer were credited with a 2-1 win to complete the sweep.

The Wayne State College beach volleyball team will play one more match in Arizona on Friday, March 11 against Ottawa of Arizona. Ottawa is the two-time defending NAIA national champion and ranked #1 in NAIA this season.
