WAYNE – Following the third NSIC baseball release, a Wayne State College athlete has been named the player of the week all three times.

Junior infielder, Andrew Hanson earned his second NSIC Baseball Player of the Week after his teammate took home the award last week being CJ Neumann.

The Wildcat baseball team posted a 2-1 record in a weekend road series with Newman in Wichita, Kansas this past Friday and Saturday.

The 6-1, 185-pound second baseman hit .583 last weekend going 7 for 12 at the plate with two homers, three doubles and seven RBI for a 1.333 slugging percentage. He had a pair of three-hit games while extending his hitting streak to 10 games to start the season. Hanson was 3 for 4 with a homer, double and three runs scored in Friday’s 14-10 win over the Jets, hit a two-run homer in a 10-6 loss and capped the series going 3 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI in a 15-1 victory over Newman on Saturday.

For the season, Hanson is hitting .444 with eight doubles, three homers and 14 RBI and has recorded seven multi-hit games while hitting safely in all 10 games this season for the Wildcats.

The Wayne State College baseball team is 6-4 on the season and resumes play on Sunday, March 8 when the Wildcats take their annual spring break trip to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational playing Tiffin (Ohio) and Grand Valley State on the first day of the tournament.
