Wildcat Baseball Jumps Out To Early Leads, Northeastern State Comes Back In Final Game Of Series

TAHLEQUAH, OK – Following a season opening nine-inning win Friday, the Wayne State College baseball team was back on the diamond for a double header Saturday.

From Rousey Field in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Northeastern State hosted WSC.

In game two of the series, WSC brought a run across the plate in the first and outscored Northeastern State 4-1 in the second to go up 5-1. The ‘Cats scored another run in the third as both teams scored a run in the sixth. Northeastern added another run in the bottom of the seventh as WSC held on for the 7-3 victory.

Alex Logelin posted a three-hit performance (all singles) to go along with two RBI as Kyle Thompson added a single and double. Brenan Madsen, Peyton Barnes and Jake Lorenzini all doubled and drove in a run while Travis Miller singled. Bryce Bisenius and Garrett Graveline also accounted for a RBI.

Hunter Wienhoff worked the complete gem in seven innings allowing three runs (two earned) off four hits. He also struck out five batters, walked one and hit two.

From the third and final game of the series, the ‘Cats opened with a 5-0 first inning as both teams scored a run in the second. Northeastern State cut into the deficit with a 3-0 fourth to trail 6-4. WSC scored a run in the seventh and gave up a run in the eight before Northeastern State posted a 5-1 ninth to walk-off with the win. Northeastern State improves to 1-5 as Wayne State College fell to 2-1.

Bisenius recorded a four-hit, three RBI game at the plate for WSC with two homers. Logelin and Jake Lemar both recorded a multi-hit game each with a double. Andrew Hanson singled with a RBI and Colin Chick homered for a RBI while Kyle Thomson added a homer with four RBI.

WSC used seven pitchers as Lawson Zenner worked the final two-thirds to suffer the loss (0-1) allowing all five earned runs off of five hits and walking three batters.

The Wayne State College baseball team will next visit Emporia, Kansas and face three different opponents in four days on Thursday, February 14 – Sunday, February 17. WSC will open and close against Fort Hays State on Thursday and end with the Tigers on Sunday both at noon. The ‘Cats will also face Emporia State at noon on Friday and William Jewell on Saturday at 3 p.m.
