WHS Volleyball Sweeps Road Triangular Opponents, Wisner-Pilger JV Results

NORTH BEND – Followings a road loss earlier in the week, the Wayne High volleyball team secured a pair of triangular victories over the weekend to get back on the winning track.

The Blue Devils competed in the North Bend Central Triangular along with Aquinas Catholic Saturday.

WHS swept both North Bend (25-19, 25-20) and Aquinas Catholic (25-21, 25-22). Wayne High improves to 6-3 on the season.

During the win against NBC, Lauren Pick recorded 19 kills, eight digs and a solo block. Emily Longe added six kills; Sydney Redden paced the team with 10 digs as Kiara Krusemark tallied 24 set assists. As a team, WHS finished with three service aces from Reagan Backer, Rubie Klausen (nine digs) and Pick.

From the victory over Aquinas Catholic, Pick paced the team with 23 kills; Klausen had six kills and a team-high 11 digs as Longe finished with four kills. Redden had nine digs as Krusemark totaled 31 assists and five digs. In the service department, Reagan Backer posted two aces as Klausen and Krusemark both finished with one.

The Wayne High volleyball team will next host GACC on Tuesday, September 15 and Lutheran High Northeast on Thursday, September 17.

 

While Wayne’s varsity team competed at North Bend the remainder of Wayne’s team competed in the Wisner-Pilger JV tournament on Saturday where they went 1-2.

Wayne lost their first match of the day, 17-25 and 25-27 to Clarkson-Leigh (Scoring/Aces): Faith Powicki (1-0); Jaycee Bruns (9-0); Tasha Petersen (1-0); Courtney Brink (3-0); Sydney Baker (1-0); Leah Perry (2-1) and Anna Kaup (1-1).

Wayne then defeated O’Neill in straight sets 25-18 and 25-18;  Faith Powicki (5-3); Jaycee Bruns (12-5); Tasha Petersen (6-0); Courtney Brink (1-1); Sydney Baker (1-1); Leah Perry (2-2) and Anna Kaup (2-1).

Wayne closed out the tourney with a three-set loss to GACC 24-26, 25-19 and 15-17. Faith Powicki (5-1); Jaycee Bruns (4-3); Tasha Petersen (4-0); Courtney Brink (10-3); Sydney Baker (10-2) and Anna Kaup (2-0).

Wayne’s busy schedule continues with a Freshman/Sophomore triangular at Clarkson at 4:30 p.m. Monday, before hosting games Tuesday/Thursday and traveling to Wisner on Saturday for a reserve tournament.
