WHS Volleyball Sweeps Cedar Catholic, Faces GACC Tuesday In Conference Semis

BATTLE CREEK – All nine Mid State Conference volleyball teams were in action to open the week Monday from two different sites during tourney play.

From Battle Creek High School, #2 Wayne High met up with #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic.

The Blue Devils swept the Trojans (25-11, 25-9, 25-18) to improve to 21-7 as Cedar Catholic fell to 13-12. Monday night’s win also marked the 13th consecutive for WHS.

Lauren Pick recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs to go along with two solo blocks while Kiara Krusemark followed with 24 set assists and six kills. Rubie Klausen added three kills, two aces and seven digs; Sydney Redden had eight digs and two kills; Emily Longe tallied three kills as Mady Sievers posted two kills and one ace.

Reagan Backer paced the team in service aces with four while tacking on six digs while Kate Hill and Klausen both had a block.

Wayne High will next face #3 Guardian Angels Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20 from Norfolk Catholic High School. The other winner’s bracket match will feature #1 Norfolk Catholic vs. #5 Battle Creek to open the evening at 6 p.m.

Earlier this season, WHS swept GACC 2-0 during the Northeast Nebraska Classic on September 5 and again 3-0 during the regular season in Wayne on September 15.

In the loser’s bracket, #4 O’Neill will face #8 Crofton at 6 p.m. followed by #6 Pierce vs. #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic at 7:30 p.m. from Battle Creek HS also Tuesday.
