HARTINGTON – After dropping two road matches earlier this weekend, the Wayne High volleyball team was back on the road for a second triangular.
From Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington on Thursday, WHS joined the host HCC (Class D1) and fellow Class C1 opponent of O’Neill.
Wayne High was swept by the host Cedar Catholic (16-25, 19-25) and lost in three sets to O’Neill (25-22, 14-25, 11-25).
WHS is now 1-16 on the season.
In the third match, Cedar Catholic swept O’Neill (25-16, 25-16) to improve to 14-6 as O’Neill fell to 5-8 with the split.
In the loss against HCC, Kate Hill recorded a team-high five kills to go along with five digs white Haley Kramer added three kills and two digs. Faith Powicki led the team in digs with nine while Isabelle Francis produced five assists.
Gabbi Judd and Jaycee Bruns (one dig) both finished with two kills.
Anna Kaup tallied two service aces and four assists as Bruns had an ace. Amelia Legler tacked on two blocks (one solo) and Bruns had a block.
No box score was provided in the three-set loss with O’Neill.
The Wayne High volleyball team will next take part in the Madison September Classic on Saturday, September 24. #7 WHS will open with #2 Piece at 10 a.m. in the South gym with the winner/loser to face the winner/loser of either #3 Wisner-Pilger or #6 Chambers/Wheeler Central who play right after the Wayne/Pierce game.
The other half of the bracket in the North gym from Madison will feature #1 Humphrey St. Francis vs. #8 Madison at 10 a.m. followed by #4 Summerland vs. #5 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge. Once the first round is complete, an 11-minute warm-up period after each match will follow for games two and three for each team in the tourney.
