WHS Volleyball Suffers Back-To-Back Losses To Open Two-Day Classic, Saturday Schedule Updated

PENDER – After being off for a week, the Wayne High volleyball team took part in two matches to open the NEN Jean Groth Volleyball Classic.

From Pender, WHS competed in Pool A of the tournament which began Thursday evening.

Wayne High suffered a loss in straight sets to Oakland-Craig (14-25, 20-25) and lost 2-0 against the host Pender (18-25, 21-25).

The Blue Devils are now 0-3 on the season.

The third match of the evening favored Oakland-Craig over Pender (25-13, 25-19).

In the loss against Oakland-Craig, Kate Hill recorded five kills, 20 digs and three blocks (two solo) while Amelia Legler added three kills, two digs and a block. Jacen Hasemann posted a team-high 23 digs as Faith Powicki tacked on 11 digs. Anna Kaup had five set assists and three digs.

Emma Forsythe tallied a service ace and three blocks (one solo); Gabbi Judd had a block as other dig leaders came from Haley Kramer (six) and Jaycee Bruns (one).

During the loss with Pender, Legler (two digs) and Kramer (six digs) both had two kills as Hill, Forsythe and Bruns (one dig) all finished with one kill. Hill also added 20 digs and a solo block. Kaup finished with six set assists and three digs as Powicki tallied 11 digs.

Hasemann again had 23 digs to lead to the team to go with two service aces. Other aces came from Hill, Kaup and Forsythe.

The Wayne High volleyball team will continue competition in the NEN Volleyball Classic on Saturday with a schedule below.
