WHS Volleyball Goes 2-1 During North Bend Invite

NORTH BEND – Following a five-set home victory earlier in the weekend, the Wayne High volleyball team took to the road for a weekend tournament.

From North Bend, WHS joined five other teams in the NBC Tournament.

In Pool B, Wayne High won in three sets over David City Aquinas (25-20, 17-25, 25-22) before sweeping Lexington (25-14, 25-17). From the final match, Grand Island Central Catholic swept WHS (25-14, 25-20) as Wayne High is now 5-5 on the season.

From the victory over Aquinas, Kate Hill recorded 10 kills and four digs, followed by Rubie Klausen with eight kills and 11 digs, Leah Perry had six kills, Kiara Krusemark posted a team-high 22 set assists to go along with two digs and had two kills; Mady Sievers had two kills and two digs; Amelia Legler had one kill, a dig and a solo block as Redden totaled six digs and a kill. Reagan Backer led the team in digs with 12 while Anna Kaup also had a dig.

Service aces came from Backer with three, Sievers and Klausen both had two as Hill and Redden both finished with an ace.

 

In the win against Lexinton, Klausen paced the team with seven kills to go along with 10 digs, Hill added six kills and a team-high 12 digs, Kaup posted five kills; Sievers had two kills and seven digs; Krusemark tallied 19 set assists, nine digs and a kill as Perry had a kill and a dig. Redden finished with 10 digs while Backer had four digs.

Hill posted four service aces as Redden and Backer both had one ace.

 

During the final match of the invite against GICC, Klausen recorded eight kills and six digs, Hill tallied five kills and four digs, Krusemark came away with 14 set assists, six digs and two kills; Sievers had two kills; Perry finished with two kills as Kaup had a kill and a dig. Faith Powicki had four digs.

Redden had Wayne High’s lone service ace as Hill and Perry both had a solo block.

The Wayne High volleyball team will next visit Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Tuesday, September 14.
