NORTH BEND – With a pair of home matches on the varsity schedule for mid-September, the Wayne High volleyball team took to the road for a weekend trio of games.
From North Bend High School, WHS joined five other schools during the NBC Invite on Saturday.
In Pool B, Wayne High was swept by Grand Island Central Catholic (8-25, 11-25) while also suffering a loss in straight sets against Freeman (16-25, 13-25).
In the final match of the afternoon, WHS swept Lexington (25-14, 25-23).
Wayne High is now 1-9 on the season.
During the loss against GICC, Jaycee Bruns recorded a team-high four kills and had one dig, Kate Hill added three kills and six digs, Emma Forsythe tacked on two kills as Haley Kramer (two digs) and Amelia Legler both finished with a kill. Faith Powicki tied for a team-high six digs as Jacen Hasemann and Isabelle Francis (nine assists) both had a dig.
Hill also had a service ace and a block along with Legler adding a block.
From the loss with Freeman, Bruns again led the team in kills with four and one dig, Haley Kramer (two digs), Gabbi Judd (two digs) and Forsythe all had two kills as Elle Powicki, Anna Kaup and Hill (five digs) each added a kill. Faith Powicki led the team in digs with 13, Francis added eight assist and three digs, Hasemann tallied three digs
Francis posted three service aces.
In the victory over Lexington, Hill finished with nine kills and seven digs, Forsythe followed with seven kills, Bruns added four kills and two digs as Kramer tallied two kills and seven digs. Faith Powicki posted 19 digs as other digs came from Hasemann (six), Kaup (two) and Judd (one). Francis led the team in assists with 14 to go along with one dig.
Kramer recorded three service aces, Francis had two and Hasemann tacked on an ace. Judd had a solo block.
The Wayne High volleyball team will next host Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Tuesday, September 13 and also welcome in Lutheran High Northeast on Thursday, September 15.
