MADISON – Following a pair of road triangular outings earlier in the week, the Wayne High volleyball team remained on the road on Saturday.
From Madison, the Dragons hosted the Madison Classic featuring a total of eight teams.
#7 Wayne opened with a loss in straight sets to #2 Pierce (17-25, 11-25), before winning in straight sets over #6 Chambers/Wheeler Central (25-14, 25-8) and concluded Saturday afternoon with a loss in straights sets to #5 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (23-25, 17-25). WHS finished sixth in the tournament.
WHS is now 2-17 on the season.
#2 Pierce improved to 16-2 with victories over #7 WHS (2-0), #2 Wisner-Pilger (2-0) and #1 Humphrey-St. Francis (2-0) to win the Madison September Classic.
In the loss against Pierce, Kate Hill recorded six kills and a dig, Faith Powicki tallied four digs and Isabelle Francis finished with nine assists.
Elle Powicki, Amelia Legler, Jaycee Bruns and Haley Kramer (one dig) all had a kill. Gabbi Judd added a solo block.
During the victory over CWC, Hill, Kramer (two digs) and Judd all had four kills. Amelia Legler added two kills as Bruns (two digs) and Francis (seven assists) both tallied a kill.
Faith Powicki posted four service aces and a dig, Reginae Menyweather tacked on three aces and a dig, Kramer had two aces as Bruns, Anna Kaup, Hill and Francis all added an ace.
From the loss with LCC, Hill finished with eight kills and four digs while Kramer (two digs) and Legler (one dig) both added four kills. Faith Powicki led the team in digs with 13 as Francis added 16 assists and two digs.
Judd and Bruns (three digs) both posted two kills.
Service aces came from Bruns, Hill and Francis as Judd and Kramer both had a block.
The Wayne High volleyball team will next host West Point-Beemer on Tuesday, September 27.
