WHS Track & Field Teams Place Ninth, Several Medals Earned From Elkhorn Invite

ELKHORN – A handful of competitors from Wayne High participated in the Kruger-May Invite Thursday.

A total of 11 girls and 12 boys teams saw action during the Elkhorn Track & Field Invite where Lincoln Pius X won the girls division with 96 points and Elkhorn South won the boys division with 141 points.

Wayne High placed ninth in both team standings with the girls recording 21 points and the boys 11 points.

Head coach Dale Hochstein said, “we had several PR’s on another cold, breezy day against great Class A competition.”

All six individuals for the Blue Devil girls brought home hardware with Brooklyn Kruse taking first in the shot put (37’ 1 ½”) and runner-up in the discus (108’ 9”). The 4×800-meter relay team of Kiara Krusemark, Laura Hasemann, Andi Belt and Faith Powicki placed fifth in a time of 10:49 while Courtney Brink took sixth in the shot put (32’ 8”).

For the Wayne High boys, Layne Evans placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (42.16) and sixth in the 400-meter dash (53.39). Alex Phelps placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (42.61) and Reece Jaqua took fifth in the pole vault (11’).

Other boys who traveled to Elkhorn were Sedjro Agoumba in the 400 (14th – 55.06) and 800 (13th – 2:15) as well as Treyton Blecke in the high jump (T-10th – 5’ 6”).

The entire Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will next be in action on Thursday, April 22 during the Schuyler Invite.
