WAYNE – For the fourth time this season the Wayne High softball team took on a Class A opponent.
From the Wayne Softball Complex, WHS entertained Columbus High Thursday night.
Columbus High was the first to get on the board thanks to an opening inning run. WHS answered in the third to tie the game at 1-1. The Blue Devils then took the lead for good with a two-run fifth inning and held on for the 3-1 victory. Wayne High is now 17-3 on the season while the Discoverers fell to 1-17.
Kendall Dorey went 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles, a double and scored two runs for Wayne. Aliah Schulz singled and doubled as Brianna Nissen and Taytum Sweetland both singled and drove in a run. Tori Kniesche accounted for a RBI and Brooklyn Kruse scored.
Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game no-hit win in seven innings allowing the one run while striking out 20 batters and walking two.

The Wayne High softball team will be off this weekend and next visit the NEN Vipers (BRLD/Wisner-Pilger/Pender) on Thursday, September 26.
