WHS Softball Secures Road Triangular Victories

PIERCE – Following a home triangular on Monday to open the week, the Wayne High softball team closed out their three triangular dates with their second of the season.

From Pierce, the Blue Devils visited the host Bluejays and Boone Central/Newman Grove Tuesday night.

Wayne High shutout the Cardinals, 7-0 before winning 20-2 over Pierce. WHS is now 12-4 on the season and has won four straight.

From the win against BC/NG, Wayne High opened scoring in the third inning with a run and four more in the fourth to lead 5-0. WHS ended the game with a two-run fifth to win 7-0 in six innings.

Aliah Schulz singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Brooklyn Kruse tripled and scored while Kendall Dorey doubled. Kierah Haase singled, drove in two runs and scored; Hope O’Reilly singled and scored twice; Taytem Ellis accounted for a RBI and run scored as Virginia Kniesche scored.

Dorey (115 pitches) secured the complete game win in six innings allowing two hits while striking out eight batters and walking two.

In the night cap, WHS took control early by outscoring Pierce, 14-1 in the first inning. WHS also outscored the Bluejays, 4-1 in the second and scored two more runs in the third to win 20-2 thanks to 15 hits.

Dorey recorded a homerun, single, drove in two runs and scored three times; Brooklyn Kruse doubled twice, drove in a run and scored twice as Delaney Kruse singled, doubled, drove in five runs and scored. O’Reilly also had two singles, three RBI and two runs scored.

Liberty Titiml singled and scored three times; Schulz and Taytem Ellis both singled, drove in a run and scored; Hailey Schroeder, Jersi Jensen and Miller all singled and drove in a run; Madi Janke singled; Rylin Hall accounted for a RBI; Haase had a RBI and run scored; Mikaela McManigal and Kniesche both scored twice as Caitlyn Mostek and Taytem Sweetland both scored.

Sammi Gubbels (47 pitches) secured the complete game victory in three innings allowing two runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
