WHS Softball Falls On Senior Night  

WAYNE – Parent’s night was highlighted with the final regular season home softball outing for Wayne High.

From the Wayne Softball Complex, WHS welcomed in a fellow Class C foe of NEN (Wisner-Pilger/Pender) on Thursday.

NEN picked up the 13-7 victory over WHS to improve to 13-7. The Blue Devils fell to 10-5.

Both teams scored two runs in the opening inning before the Vipers recorded a four-run seoncd inning to lead 6-2. WHS cut the deficit in half with two runs in the home half of the third before neither team scored in the fourth. With NEN up 6-4 entering the fifth inning, the Vipers would outscore Wayne 2-1 in both the fifth and sixth innings before winning the seventh inning, 3-1. Final favored NEN, 13-7.

Seniors being recognized were Brooklyn Kruse, Kylen Robbins, Logan Miller and Hailey Schroeder.

Delaney Kruse singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Mackenzie Nissen singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs as Logan Miller doubled and scored.

Taytem Ellis singled twice and scored three runs; Nyla Bolles singled, drove in a run and scored; Caitlyn Mostek singled as Kierah Haase accounted for a RBI.

Nissen (133) suffered the loss in seven innings allowing 13 runs (nine earned) off 12 hits while striking out and walking five baters each.

The Wayne High softball team will next compete in the Adams Central Invite on Saturday, September 24 starting at 10 a.m. from the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings. The WHS/KC winner/loser will play at 11:30 a.m. against the winner/loser of either Holdrege/Adams Central or Polk County.

Bracket: 

The other half of the bracket will open with Hastings St. Cecilia vs. Ord and Cozad vs. Gering. The final games will be played at 1 p.m.

WHS will conclude their regular season at Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Thursday, September 29 before competing in the Mid State Conference tournament in O’Neill on Saturday, October 1.
