WHS Girls Golf Finishes Third, Haschke Places Second

STANTON –Following an eleven-day break, the Wayne High girls golf team was back on the course Monday morning.

From Elkhorn Acres Golf Course in Stanton, the Blue Devils joined nine other teams during the Battle Creek Invite.

WHS finished third with a 409.

Head WHS girls golf coach Josh Johnson said, “Girls battled hard today (Monday). There were some pretty rough holes for each girl but they continued to bounce back and not let anything get them down. They continue to learn every day and I look forward to how far they can get in the next few weeks as we work hard heading towards Districts.”

After a rough start (shooting a 10 on hole one), Riley Haschke finished runner-up with a team-best 93. Other medalists included Joslyn Johnson in fourth with a 94 while Carli Canham placed eighth with a 102. Lindsay Niemann rounded out the ‘illness depleted team’ with a 120.

O’Neill won the Battle Creek Invite with a 405, Battle Creek followed in second (408), Wayne took third (409), West Holt placed fourth (439) and Hartington Cedar Catholic rounded out the top five teams with a 468.

The top golfer was O’Neill’s Kaylin Gaughenbaugh with an 87.

The Wayne High girls golf teams will next host Hartington Cedar Catholic and Pierce on Thursday, September 15 at 4 p.m. during a home triangular from the Wayne Country Club. WHS will also travel to Albion for the Boone Central Invite on Saturday.
