PIERCE – As the list continues to be updated for the Northeast Nebraska Track Classic this Thursday in Norfolk, the Wayne High girls and boys track & field team sent their underclassmen to the Pierce Invite Tuesday.
A total of seven girls and eight boys teams competed in the Freshman/Sophomore Invite hosted by Pierce.
Both the Wayne High girls (30 points) and boys (19 points) finished seventh.
The Norfolk Freshmen/Sophomore team won the girls division with 127 points, O’Neill took second with 104 points, Norfolk Catholic finished third (103), Boone Central came in fourth (60) and Battle Creek JV rounded out the top five teams with 49 points. Pierce took sixth with 37 points.
Wayne High was led by Frantzdie Barner finished third in the 200-meter dash (28.4) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.6).
Sierra Mutchler took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (19.3) and sixth in the long jump (13’ 1”), Delaney Kruse came in fourth in the discus (93’ 1”), Raegan Maas finished fourth in the 3200-meter run (14:38) as Katy Jones placed sixth in the high jump (4’ 6”).
The 4×100-meter relay team (Barner, Kate Hill, Jones and Jaycee Bruns) placed fourth (58) as did the 4×400-meter relay team (Hill, Jones, Bruns and Liberty Titiml) in a time of 5:17.
Pierce’s Freshmen/Sophomore team won the boys division with 181 points, Norfolk Catholic took second with 102 points, Boone Central finished third (72), Norfolk came in fourth (67) and Battle Creek rounded out the top five teams with 43 points. O’Neill took sixth (41), Wayne placed seventh (19) and Elkhorn Valley tallied a point.
WHS was led by Carter Junck finishing runner-up in the high jump (5’ 8”) while Eli Barner placed third in the pole vault (10’ 6”) and also earned a point for the team in the triple jump (35’ 8 ¾”). Parker Kesting finished fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:33) and the 4×100- meter relay team (Barner, Daniel Judd, Drew Fertig and Braydn McCorkindale also took fifth (49.5).
Select individuals will compete in the Northeast Nebraska Track Classic on Thursday, April 29 in Norfolk.
Girls 4×800 – meter relay team (Kiara Krusemark, Laura Hasemann, Andi Belt and Faith Powicki); Powicki and Krusemark in the 800-meter run; Brooklyn Kruse in both the shot put and discus as well as Belt in the triple jump. Hasemann would be the first person in for the 3200-meter run if someone would scratch as the 13th fastest time.

Boys 4×100 – meter relay team (Layne Evans, Sedjro Agoumba, Alex Phelps and Koby Nelson); 4×400-meter relay team (Evans, Agoumba, Phelps and Reece Wilson-Jaqua); Evans and Phelps in the 300-meter hurdles; Jesus Zavala in the 3200-meter run and Treyton Blecke in high jump. Sedjro Agoumba would be the first person in for the 400-meter dash if someone would scratch as the ninth fastest time.
The Wayne High track & field team will return to action on Saturday, May 1 during the Mid State Conference Meet hosted by Pierce.
