LAUREL – The Wayne High varsity boys golf team has grabbed a pair of runner-up scores and third place finishes (one being a tie) the last four outings and saw their regular season come to an end Thursday.
With district competition to begin next week, WHS competed in the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Boys Golf Invite from Cedar View Country Club.
Leading the team standings was Hartington Cedar Catholic winning the meet with a 344, followed by Wayne High in second with a 349 while Pierce placed third shooting a 357. Crofton took fourth with a 361, Ponca fifth (388) and Randolph shot a 414 to finish sixth. Wakefield/Allen (418), Hartington/Newcastle (428), LCC and Homer were also varsity teams in competition.
Individually, Ted Bengston of HCC won the 18-hole outing with a 79 followed by Chaden Roth (Pierce), Riley Kuehn (HCC) and Evan Anderson (Ponca) all with an 80.
Wayne’s top golfers were Tanner Walling shooting an 82 to place fifth and Shea Sweetland took seventh (85). Other varsity scores came from Christopher Woerdemann (T-12th – 90), Peyton DeWald (16th – 92) and Drew Sharpe (20th – 95).
Zach Urbanec led the Wayne JV team tying for 12th (90).
The top Wakefield/Allen golfer was Ty Guill shooting a 99 to place 23rd.
The Wayne High boys golf team will compete in the B2 District Meet on Monday, May 13 from River Wilds Golf Club in Blair. WHS and Blair will be joined by Bennington, Bishop Neumann, Douglas County West, Mount Michael Benedictine, Omaha Concordia, Omaha Roncalli Catholic, Omaha Skutt Catholic, Schuyler, Wahoo and West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder.
