CREIGHTON – After nearly getting in two whole games on day one of the 2022 Class C Junior American Legion baseball state tournament, weather caused the tourney to be pushed back one day.
From Greg Paesl Field in Creighton, eight Class C Junior legion teams played just one game.
On Saturday, Pender got by PWG with an 11-3 victory before only four innings were completed in the Imperial vs. Tri-County game with Imperial leading 9-2 in the top of the fifth.
Following the Saturday afternoon/evening weather, the tournament was pushed back one full day as Imperial held onto the 11-3 victory over Tri-County on Sunday afternoon.
Other opening round Class C scores on Sunday favored Malcolm over Wakefield Post 81, 5-0 in nine innings (Malcolm scored all five runs in the top of the ninth) and DCB won 7-3 over the host Creighton/Plainview.
Monday’s schedule will be what Sunday was scheduled for.
The first elimination game is scheduled for 11 a.m. between PWG and Tri-County followed by a second elimination game at 2 p.m. featuring Wakefield Post 81 and Creighton/Plainview (rematch from the Area 1 Final where Wakefield won 20-19 and 11-0 last Tuesday in Wakefield).
In the winner’s bracket, Pender will match up against Imperial at 5 p.m. followed by the night-cap between Malcolm and Dannebrog/Cairo/Boelus at 8 p.m.
The Wakefield/Creighton winner will await the loser of Pender/Imperial at 2 p.m. on Tuesday; the PWG/Tri-County winner will await the loser of Malcolm/DCB at 5 p.m. and the two winner’s bracket winners of either Pender/Imperial and Malcolm/DCB will meet at 8 p.m. also on Tuesday.
The Class C Junior American Legion baseball state tournament championship game has been moved now to Thursday, July 21 scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
