Wayne Youth Baseball Tournament Results; Broncos Crowned Champion Going 3-0

WAYNE – All three youth baseball weekend tournament teams began their home tournament with a pair of Saturday games and one more on Sunday.

From the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne, all three teams were in action.

The Wayne Pony Tournament team (6-4) split their Saturday games by winning 11-1 over Hinton, IA but suffered a 10-5 loss to Pender. Wayne finished off Sunday by winning 8-7 over Sioux City North.

In the win against Hinton, Gavin Anderson singled, doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored three times; Mason Heikes singled, doubled and drove in four runs while Austin Heiser singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Parker Patefield singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Brodrick Tiedtke singled and drove in a run; Carter Wiese singled; Drew Reinhardt scored twice as single runs came from Herwin Bernal, Brodey Munter and Sam Etter.

Tiedtke (65 pitches) picked up the victory in four innings allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out four batters and walking one. Heikes (8) closed out the final inning allowing two hits while striking out one batter.

During the loss with Pender, Heikes tripled, drove in a run and scored while Heiser tripled and scored. Munter singled twice and scored; Patefield, singled, drove in two runs and scored; Mason Karsky singled and drove in a run; Etter singled and scored as Reinhardt singled.

Anderson (52) suffered the loss in two innings allowing five runs (three earned) off five hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Reinhardt (21) worked an inning allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out two batters. Blade Nelson (41) pitched two innings allowing three runs (one earned) off two hits while striking out four batters and walking one.

In the victory over Sioux City North, Munter singled, doubled and scored twice while Heiser doubled, drove in a run and scored.

Anderson singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice; Patefield singled and scored twice; Karsky singled and drove in a run; Nelson singled and scored as Heikes and Reinhardt both singled.

Heikes (39) picked up the win in two innings allowing three runs off three hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Patefield (50) worked three innings allowing one run off one hit while striking out four batters and walking three. Nelson (18) pitched an inning allowing one hit while striking out two batters and walking one. Tiedtke came in for an inning allowing three runs off two hits while striking out three batters.

The Wayne Bronco Tournament team (8-2) won all three games this weekend. Wayne began Saturday morning with a 15-2 win over Ponca Black before winning 17-6 against O’Neill in the afternoon. Wayne also defeated Logan View-Drey, 7-4 in Sunday’s championship game.

In the win against Ponca Black, Black Smith doubled twice, tripled, drove in three runs and scored three times; Colston Starzl singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times; Jackson McMenamin singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored; Aiden Petersen singled, tripled and scored; Maddux Heithold tripled, drove in two runs and scored as Spencer Moormeier doubled.

Easton Endicott singled twice, drove in two runs and scored; William Patefield singled, drove in a run and scored; Reece Ames accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Kash Haase added a RBI and run scored as Kamden Hall scored.

Patefield (88) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out 10 batters and walking four.

During the win over O’Neill, Patefield singled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored three times; Ames singled, tripled, drove in a run and scored three times as Haase singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored.

McMenamin singled, drove in two runs and scored; Smith singled, drove in a run and scored; Moormeier singled and drove in a run; Endicott added three RBI and a run scored; Starzl accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Hall tacked on a RBI and run scored as single runs came from Petersen, Noah Magnuson, Evan Greve and Heithold.

Combining for the victory were Smith (60) in two innings allowing six runs (one earned) off three hits while walking four batters as McMenamin (30) worked two innings allowing one hit while striking out one batter and walking two.

In the championship victory against Logan View-Drey, Patefield recorded a homerun, singled, totaled three RBI and a run scored while McMenamin singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored. Starzl and Haase both singled and scored; Smith scored twice as Endicott scored once.

Combining for the victory were Starzl (42) in two innings allowing two runs off one hit while striking out and walking three batters each as Petersen (73) worked four innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out five batters and walking three.

The Wayne Didget Tournament team (2-4) split their Saturday games with an 8-1 loss to Vermillion, SD but won 6-5 over the West Point Dodgers. The Wayne Didgets then secured a 4-2 victory over O’Neill on Sunday in bracket play.

In the victory over O’Neill, Sy Chase singled three times and scored twice while Brayden Wehrer singled twice and scored. Merrick Miller singled and scored; Mason Nelson singled; Isaiah Zarate accounted for three RBI as Harley Poland added a RBI.

Miller (84) picked up the win in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) off two hits while striking out 15 batters and walking one. Dreu Jensen (21) came in for the save in the final inning striking out two batters and walking one.
