Wayne Wrestling Club Returns With Six Medalists, Lance Stange Champion; Knox Koch Runner-Up

GRAND ISLAND – Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade age division competed in the Nebraska USA State Wrestling Championships over the weekend.

The Wayne Wrestling Club sent 15 boys and two girls to the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island. WWC finished 54th with 100.5 points.

There were 224 teams who recorded at least one point at state.

Lance Stange (7th-8th 275) was crowned champion while Knox Koch (pre-k 33-36) placed runner-up for the Wayne Wrestling Club.

Other medalists came from Kaiser Woehler (pre-k 46-47) who finished third; Kimbree Rees (girls k-2nd 67-71) in third; Lakin Stange (7th-8th 195) in seventh and Bentlee Nelson (prek-k 51-52 A) took eighth.

Adrian Zarate (1st-2nd 50); Cohen Woehler (1st-2nd 59); Wyatt Dunklau (1st-2nd 115); Mason Nelson (3rd-4th 65); Grady Maas (5th-6th 65); Noah Magnuson (5th-6th 85); Josh Miller (5th-6th 130); Ethan Gregory (7th-8th 85); Grant Maas (7th-8th 132); Taven Ocampo (7th-8th 140); and Lillian Stange (girls 6th-8th 109) all competed during the NEUSA State Tournament.

 

Also, a trio of Wayne High wrestlers competed in Grand Island during the High School Boys/Girls division.

Renieth Montiel (Girls 101) placed first; Jaycee Bruns (Girls 130) finished second and Francisco Jinez (150) competed but did not place.
