PIERCE – As subdistrict, district and state competition approach in the month of February, a series of northeast Nebraska high school wrestling programs took part in their conference tournament Thursday.
From Pierce Public Schools, the Bluejays hosted the nine-team Mid State Conference Wrestling Championships.
The host Pierce won the conference meet with 178 points, followed by Boone Central with 171 points in second, O’Neill took third with 167.5 points, Crofton-Bloomfield placed fourth with 142 points and Battle Creek rounded out the top five teams with 114 points.
Other team scoring came from Wayne in sixth with 113 points, Norfolk Catholic (seventh – 84), GACC (eighth – 57.5) and Hartington Cedar Catholic (ninth – 45.5).
Wayne High was led by four second place results from Garrett Schultz (106), Ashton Munsell (126), Reece Jaqua (132) and Reid Korth (182) while both Dakota Spann (195) and Martin Carrillo (220) placed third.
The Wayne High wrestling program will next compete in the Plainview Invite this Saturday, January 30 starting at 9:30 a.m.
