WISNER – Both the Wayne High and Winside wrestling programs were in action over the weekend during an invitational.
From Wisner-Pilger high school, the Gators hosted 10 other teams during the Green Machine Tourney Saturday.
Wayne High finished runner-up with 145.5 points followed by Winside in third with 115 points.
Schuyler was crowned tournament champions with 165.5 points as the host, Wisner-Pilger took fourth (104 points) and Schuyler JV placed fifth (60). Other team scoring came from Oakland-Craig with 53 points (sixth); Stanton (seventh – 45), BRLD (eighth – 28), Scribner-Snyder (ninth – 21); Cedar Bluffs (10th – 15) and Clarkson-Leigh (11th – nine).
Wayne High was led by Reece Jaqua (126), Cade Janke (195) and Mike Leatherdale (285) all winning their respective weight classes while Zachary McManigal (106), Aiden Liston (160), Reid Korth (170) and Dakota Spann (195) finished second. James Dorcey (152) and Martin Carrillo (220) both placed third as Wyatt Heikes (106) and Ashton Munsell (120) came in fourth.
Top Winside performers came from Jacoby Mann (113), Cayden Ellis (120), Art Escalante (132) and Gabe Escalante (138) all placed first; Matthew Frederick (126) took second as Tyler Carlson (145) finished third. Maddox Magwire (132), Sean Heimdale (152) and Mason Topp (170) all placed fourth.
The Wayne High wrestling team will next be in action on Tuesday, January 7 when they compete in the Plainview triangular with Boone Central/Newman Grove. For Winside, they’ll take part in an invitational held at Newman Grove high school on Saturday, December 28.
