Wayne, Winside Each Have An Individual Wrestler In Championship Match

OMAHA – Day two of the 2020 NSAA State Wrestling Championships is complete as area individuals prepare for finals competition and look to bring home a medal.

Back at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Class B and C wrestlers were in action in the morning for their first and second round consolation matches as were individuals in Classes A and D.

All class semifinals and third round consolation matches took place Friday evening.

Class B_C state wrestling individuals day two 2-21-20

Wayne High advances two wrestles to Saturday. Mike Leatherdale (285) will wrestle Remington Gay of Arlington in the finals while Reece Jaqua (126) will wrestle Tyler Curtis of Blair in the consolation semifinal.

Reid Korth (170) went 2-2, Cade Janke (195) went 1-2 while Dakota Spann (182) and Martin Carrillo (220) dropped both first round and consolation matches.

Classes A and D state wrestling individuals Day 2 2-21-20

All three Winside wrestlers will be in action Saturday. Cayden Ellis (113) will face Zack Hartl of Elkhorn Valley as Art Escalante (132) will face Ryan Payne of Centennial for consolation semifinal matches. Gabe Escalante (138) will face Nate Christensen of Plainview in the finals.

A combined 24 area wrestles will compete in the consolation semifinals, third place, fifth place and championship matches Saturday.

Six area wrestlers still remain undefeated over the two days of competition and will compete for a state title Saturday at 2 p.m.

Plainview: Class D

Alizae Mejia (170) (30-0) vs. Dylan Soule of High Plains Community;

Nate Christensen (138 (48-1) vs. Gabe Escalante (39-7) of Winside;

Scout Ashburn (113) (45-5) vs. Eli Paxton of Mullen;

Eli Lanham (106) (46-1) vs. Hunter Bennett of Elkhorn Valley;

Wayne: Class B

Mike Leatherdale (285) (25-1) vs. Remington Gay of Arlington

Wisner-Pilger: Class C

Landon Beaver (285) (33-7) vs. Kolby Johnson of Madison

 

Saturday’s consolation semifinals as well as third and fifth place matches will start at 8:30 a.m.
