WAYNE/DODGE – Both the Wayne Didget teams began their portion of the league tournament Sunday evening with a split.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne White Didgets defeated the West Point Twins, 12-7 while the Wayne Blue Didgets suffered an 11-8 loss at Dodge-Howells. The Wayne Whites improve to 4-7 and advance to face the West Point Patriots while the Wayne Blues fall to 2-9 and will next compete against the West Point Twins on Tuesday, July 21. Both games would be in West Point.
In the Wayne White Didget contest, Noah Magnuson, Easton Endicott, Will Patefield and Jahiem Hamik accounted for the 12 runs scored. Patefield and Hamik also added hits in the victory.
The regular season finale outing for the Wayne White Didgets was against the West Point Patriots on July 16. West Point topped Wayne 11-2.
From the Wayne Blue Didget contest, Colston Starzl recorded the lone hit being a two RBI single while Camden Hall added a RBI and two runs scored for Wayne. Shawn Thompson accounted for two RBI and run scored as Maddox Heithold and Aiden Petersen both scored twice.
Starzl started the opening two and two-thirds striking out six batters. Easton Gamble worked an inning and a third striking out two batters and Spencer Moormeier came in for the final inning also striking out two batters.
Tuesday night will mark the fourth meeting between the Wayne Blue Didgets and West Point Twins. Wayne defeated the Twins 7-4 on June 19 to open the season; won on July 13, 8-5 before the West Point team won later in the week on July 16 to end the regular season, 6-5.
The other half of the winner’s bracket will feature Pender taking on Dodge-Howells. The winner’s of the Patriots/Wayne Whites and Pender/Dodge-Howells will compete in the championship game while the losers will face each other in the consolation round both on Thursday, July 23.
With the official Bronco league tournament bracket still to be released, the Wayne White Broncos (9-7) and Wayne Blue Broncos (7-5) will open with a first round match-up. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. this evening from the Summer Sports Complex. The Wayne Blues defeated the Whites 12-4 on July 2.
