Wayne White Didgets Top Dodge-Howells, Broncos Give Up Lead Late

HOWELLS/DODGE – Players with the Wayne White Didget and Bronco youth baseball teams took to the road Monday night for an away doubleheader.

Wayne visited Dodge-Howells as the Wayne White Didgets won 7-1 improving to 3-5 while the Wayne White Broncos suffered a 9-8 defeat falling to 9-6 on the season.

In the Didget contest, Will Patefield recorded two hits including one being an inside-the-park-homerun. Carson Heiser picked up the win in five innings allowing one run.

 

From the Broncos game, Dodge-Howells used a two-run second before Wayne answered with their own two runs in the third while both teams scored twice in the fourth. The Wayne White Broncos pushed the lead to 8-4 with a four-run top of the fifth but Dodge-Howells rattled off three runs in the home half of the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to win 9-8.

Will Leseberg singled three times, drove in a run and scored while Parker Patefield singled twice and scored twice for the Wayne White Broncos. Alex Rodriguez singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Carter Wiese singled, drove in two runs and scored; Drew Reinhardt and Austin Heiser both singled and scored as Gavin Anderson scored.

Patefield suffered the loss in the final third of an inning allowing two earned runs off three hits while striking out one batter. Reinhardt started the opening four innings allowing four runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Rodriguez worked an inning of relief allowing three earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter and walking three.

The Wayne White Didgets and Broncos will close out their regular season on Thursday, July 16 when they travel to the West Point Patriots at 6/7:30 p.m.
