Wayne White Didgets Finish Fourth In League Tourney, Ponies Drop To Consolation Round

DODGE/WAYNE – The Wayne White Didget youth baseball team closed out their season competing in the consolation round of the Northeast Nebraska League tourney while the Wayne Ponies fell to the consolation game this weekend.

From Dodge, the Wayne Whites took on Howells-Dodge Thursday evening. Wayne opened the tournament with a 12-7 victory over the West Point Twins on Sunday before falling to the West Point Patriots, 4-2 on Tuesday. Thursday’s final favored Dodge-Howells winning 4-0 over the Wayne Whites. The Wayne White Didgets ended their season at 4-9.

The West Point Patriots defeated Pender, 9-5 in the Didget Championship game.

Jahiem Hamik recorded a triple while Sam Leseberg singled for Wayne.

 

Moving into the second round of the Pony League Tournament, #2 Wayne welcomed in #3 Wakefield. Earlier this season, Wayne topped Wakefield, 9-2. Thursday night’s score went to Wakefield who defeated Wayne by the score of 8-1. Wayne is now 9-2 on the season.

Wayne’s lone run came from a solo homerun in the first inning by Dom Dominguez. Gavin Redden, Devin Anderson and Kaden Keller all singled.

Anderson suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing eight runs (three earned) off six hits while striking out five batters and walking two. Keller worked two-thirds of an inning allowing one hit while striking out two batters and walking one as Kaleb Moormeier worked the final three innings allowing one hit while striking out four batters and walking three.

Wayne will next host Pender in the consolation round on Saturday, July 25 at 5 p.m. while Wakefield will visit Oakland Saturday evening in the Pony Championship game. #1 Oakland defeated #4 Pender, 15-12.

 

The Broncos Division will close out their final round of the 2020 Northeast Nebraska League Tournament. #5 Wayne will host #6 Wakefield at 7 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex.
