Wayne White Didgets Crowned Regular Season Champs, Blue Broncos Take Control Early

WAYNE – Three of the four youth baseball teams were in action at home, with the didget teams closing out their regular season.

As the white broncos had the bye, the Wayne white didgets entertained Schuyler Red while the blue didgets and broncos hosted Stanton from the Summer Sports Complex Thursday night.

In the white didgets game, Wayne finished the regular season undefeated at 11-0 following the 9-1 victory. The white didgets are the regular season league champions.

Brody Munter recorded a double, triple and scored twice while Mason Heikes added a single, double, two RBI and two runs scored for Wayne. Jaxson Kneifl tallied a single, homerun, two RBI and scored twice; Adrian Contreras singled, tripled and scored twice; James Birkel singled, doubled and drove in two runs as Chase Sturm, Spencer Moormeier and Blake Smith all singled.

Sturm picked up the win in two innings striking out six of the 12 batters he faced. Birkel closed out the final three innings striking out 5 of 9.


From the blue didgets game, Wayne defeated Stanton to finish the tri-county regular season at 10-1 overall.


During the blue broncos contest, Wayne opened with game with a 10-0 lead before outscoring Stanton in the second (2-1) and fourth (3-1). Stanton brought in three runs across the plate in the fifth but it was the Wayne blue broncos winning 15-5 to improve to 8-2.

Carter Wiese singled, tripled and drove in four runs while Kaden Keller doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for Wayne. Jase Dean singled twice and drove in a run; Will Leseberg doubled and drove in a run; Mason Karsky singled and drove in two runs; Brodrick Tiedtke singled as Austin Heiser accounted for a RBI.

Dean picked up the win in four innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out six batters and walking one. Heiser worked the final inning allowing three earned runs off three hits while striking out and walking one batter each.

The Wayne white broncos will end their season at Oakland-Craig Sluggers orange while the blue broncos will close out their tri-county regular season schedule hosting Pierce on Monday, July 1 both at 7 p.m.

All divisions will need to have their make-up games played by Tuesday, July 2 to count towards their record in the Tri-County Baseball League Tournament. All standings will be finalized by July 3.

First round tournament games will be played on Saturday, July 6 for didgets and ponies while the broncos will start their opening round games on Sunday, July 7. Consolation and championship games for the pony division will be played in Pender on Friday, July 12; didgets on Sunday, July 14 in Logan View and bronco on Monday, July 15 in Stanton.
