Wayne White Didget, Broncos Edge West Point Patriots

WAYNE – After competing in their home weekend tournament, youth baseball players joined their respective tri-county league teams for a home doubleheader.

Back at the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne white didget and bronco teams entertained the West Point Patriots.

During the didget game, Wayne won 4-2 improving their undefeated record to 8-0.

Brody Munter paced Wayne at the plate going 2-for-3 with a homerun and single as Jaxson Kneifl also homered in the game. Mason Heikes tallied a single and triple while Adrian Contreras doubled.

Heikes picked up the win in two and two-thirds allowing one hit while striking out six batters. Kneifl recorded the save striking out all 10 batters faced.

 

From the bronco contest, Wayne took the early 2-1 lead in the first and outscored West Point 3-1 in the third to go up 5-2. The Wayne white broncos then doubled their scoring with a four-run fourth and another run in the fifth before the Patriots nearly came back with a six-run sixth. Wayne held on for the 10-8 victory to now sit 6-2 on the season.

Kaleb Moormeier recorded a pair of doubles and two RBI for Wayne. Devin Anderson singled and tripled, Calvin Ankeny singled and doubled; Zander Liston singled and drove in two runs while Gavin Anderson singled and drove in a run.

Ankeny picked up the win in four innings allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out six batters and walking two. Drew Reinhardt worked the final two innings allowing six earned runs off three hits (one being a homerun) while striking out six batters and walking four.

The Wayne white didgets will play two of their final three tri-county league games on the road while the broncos will close out their final three games on the road. Both will be at Pierce Thursday at 6/7:45 p.m. as the didget team will compete in a non-league game Wednesday from the Summer Sports Complex at 5:30 p.m.
