Wayne White Broncos Use Five-Run Inning To Advance Past Wayne Blues

WAYNE – Of the eight Bronco youth baseball teams competing in the 2020 Northeast Nebraska League with teams being made up from the Tri-County League, both Wayne teams opened with a first-round tournament match-up Monday evening.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne Blue Broncos earned the number four seed and hosted #5 Wayne White Broncos. The Whites defeated the Blues, 6-3 to now sit 10-7 on the season while the Blues fell to 7-6.

Earlier this season on July 2, the Wayne Blue Broncos defeated the Wayne Whites 12-4 in six innings.

The Wayne Blue Broncos took the early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings before the Wayne Whites poured in five runs during the top of the fourth. Both teams closed out the sixth with run a piece. Final saw the Wayne White Broncos avenge a loss from earlier this season by winning 6-3.

Gavin Anderson tripled, drove in two runs and scored while Carter Wiese and Alex Rodriguez both singled, drove in a run and scored for the Wayne Whites. Parker Patefield singled twice and scored; Zander Liston singled and scored twice; Drew Reinhart singled and drove in a run as Will Leseberg accounted for a RBI.

Rodriguez picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing three runs (two earned) off three hits while striking out 12 batters and walking six.

 

The Wayne Blues were led by Mason Heikes who singled, drove in a run and scored while Chase Nelson and Jace Jorgensen both singled and drove in a run. Jaxson Kneifl and Brodey Munter both scored.

Heikes suffered the loss in three and two-thirds allowing five earned runs off five hits while striking out four batters. Kneifl worked two and a third innings allowing one run off two hits while striking out five batters and walking one.

#1 West Point Patriots defeated #8 West Point Twins, 8-3. #5 Wayne White will next face #1 West Point Patriots at 7 p.m. in West Point on Wednesday, July 22. To end the regular season on July 16, the Patriots defeated Wayne, 15-6.

#4 Wayne Blue Broncos will take the Twins also Wednesday. Wayne defeated the Twins, 20-5.
