Wayne White Broncos Outlast Wayne Blue In Tri County League Gold Division Opening Round

WAYNE – With both Wayne Bronco youth baseball teams matching up against one another in the first round of the Tri County League Gold Tournament (Upper Division), one team was eliminated.

From the Summer Sports Complex, #7 Wayne Blue was listed as the home team against #10 Wayne White.

The Wayne White Broncos edged Wayne Blue, 8-7 as both teams are now 8-4 on the season.

It came down to the wire between both Wayne teams. The Wayne Blue Broncos held a slight 2-1 lead after the second and then a 4-2 lead following the third inning. Wayne White then made their move by winning the fourth, 4-1 to lead 6-5. Both teams finished with two runs in the fifth and a scoreless sixth in favor of Wayne White, 8-7.

Will Patefield recorded a homerun and two total RBI while Blake Smith and Aiden Petersen both singled and scored twice to lead Wayne White at the plate.

Noah Magnuson singled and drove in a run; Tate Holz singled and scored; Sam Leseberg singled; Trecyn Ocampo accounted for a RBI as Karter Hayes and Evan Greve both scored.

A pair of Wayne White Bronco pitchers combined for the victory being Smith (50) in three innings allowing four runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out one batter as Patefield (53) worked three innings allowing three runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out six batters.

Five of the Wayne Blue hits went extra bases. Jackson McMenamin singled, tripled and scored; Camden Hall tripled, drove in a run and scored twice; Reece Ames tripled and drove in a run; Spencer Moormeier doubled and scored twice as Colston Starzl doubled, drove in a run and scored.

Easton Endicott singled, drove in two runs and scored; Parker Zara and Liam Rockhill both singled as Easton Gamble accounted for a RBI.

Combining for the loss for Wayne Blue were Endicott (82) in four innings allowing six runs (three earned) off two hits while striking out nine batters and walking three as McMenamin (40) worked two innings allowing two earned runs off five hits while striking out two batters and walking one.

The Wayne White Broncos will next advance to visit #2 Schuyler (10-1) on Wednesday, July 6 during the Bronco Gold Tournament (Upper Division) second round.

#3 Wayne Blue hosts #6 Pierce at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 30 in the second round of the Tri County League Pony Tournament followed by #4 Wayne White vs. #5 Howells-Dodge at 8 p.m.
