Wayne White Broncos Hold On For One-Run Victory, Didgets Game Stopped In Third Due To Rain  

WAYNE – Wayne youth baseball went back to work on the diamond during a scheduled Didget/Bronco Monday night doubleheader.

The Wayne Whites were set to visit Pender but due to a light pole coming down on one of the dugouts at the youth field last week, Pender came to the Summer Sports Complex and were still listed as the home team. The Didget game was rained out in the third inning tied at 3-3 as Wayne remains 2-3 on the season while the Wayne White Broncos held on for a 9-8 victory to improve to 7-4.

In the Broncos contest, Pender scored single runs in the first and second innings before Wayne used a 3-1 third to tie the game. Pender then scored three runs in the fourth while the Wayne Whites added a five-run fifth to lead 8-6. Pender knotted the game back up with a two-run sixth just to see Wayne score a run in the seventh to hold on for the 9-8 victory.

Will Leseberg recorded three singles, drove in a run and scored twice while Alex Rodriguez doubled, drove in two runs and scored for Wayne. Lance Stange also doubled and scored; Parker Patefield singled twice and scored; Zander Liston singled twice; Carter Wiese singled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Joe Leatherdale singled and drove in a run; Mason Karsky singled and scored as Gavin Anderson scored.

Patefield picked up the win in the final three innings allowing three runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out five batters. Rodriguez opened the first three innings allowing five runs (two earned) off one hit while striking out eight batters and walking three.

The Wayne White Broncos will next host Randolph at 6/8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7 while the White Didgets will be off until Wednesday, July 8 when they host the West Point Twins at 6 p.m.

 

The 5-4 Wayne Blue Broncos also saw their road game at Wakefield called off due to rain. The game has been rescheduled to next Tuesday, July 14 planning for a 6 p.m. first pitch for a doubleheader. The Wayne Blue Broncos will next visit the West Point Patriots on Thursday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m.
