Wayne White Broncos Finish Third In League Tourney

WAYNE – A day after the Wayne White Didget youth baseball team competed in the consolation round of the 2020 Northeast Nebraska League Tournament, the Wayne White Broncos did the same.

From the Summer Sports Complex, #5 Wayne White defeated #6 Wakefield 8-3 Friday evening to place third in the Bronco League Tourney. The Whites ended their season at 11-8 overall. The Wayne Whites opened the tournament with a 6-3 victory over #4 Wayne Blue on July 20 before falling to #1 West Point Patriots, 8-1 on July 22.

The Wayne White Broncos got on the board early with a three-run first inning before Wakefield answered with a single run in the top of the second. Wayne then posted a four-run third inning as Wakefield tallied one more run in each of the fourth and sixth innings. Final favored the Wayne Whites, 8-3.

Gavin Anderson singled and drove in two runs while Drew Reinhardt doubled and scored once for Wayne. Parker Patefield and Carter Wiese both singled and scored twice; Zander Liston and Alex Rodriguez both singled and scored; Mason Karsky singled as Will Leseberg scored.

Anderson picked up the win in four innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out seven batters and walking two. Liston came in for the final two innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out four batters and walking one.

#2 Pender topped #1 West Point Patriots, 10-0 in five innings during the Bronco championship game.

The Wayne Pony youth baseball team will close out their portion of the league tournament Saturday at 5 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex. #2 Wayne will face #4 Pender in the consolation round while #1 Oakland will compete against #3 Wakefield in Oakland for the title game.
