Wayne White Broncos Fall In Semis, Blues End Season With 20-Run Performance

WEST POINT/WAYNE – Both Wayne teams competed in the second round of the Broncos Tournament Tuesday evening.

#5 Wayne White dropped an 8-1 decision during the semi-final game at #1 West Point Patriots falling to 10-8 while #4 Wayne Blue ended their season at 8-6 following a 20-8 victory over #8 West Point Twins from the Summer Sports Complex.

In the White Broncos game, the Patriots jumped ahead 2-0 after the first before scoring five more runs in the second to lead 7-0. After giving up another run in the third, the Wayne White Broncos got on the board with a single run in the fifth but fell 8-1.

Will Leseberg singled twice and drove in a run to lead the Wayne Whites. Parker Patefield and Jenner Dorey both singled while Drew Reinhardt accounted for the lone run scored.

Reinhardt suffered the loss in an inning and a third allowing seven runs (six earned) off four hits while striking out two batters and walking three. Patefield worked three and two-thirds allowing one run off one hit while striking out seven batters and walking one.

During the Blue Broncos game, Wayne scored eight runs in the first before adding another run in the second inning. Both teams scored five runs in the third while the Wayne Blue Broncos outscored the Twins 6-3 in the fourth to win 20-8.

Chase Nelsen doubled three times, drove in four runs and scored twice while Jaxson Kneifl recorded a homerun, single, drove in four runs and scored once for Wayne. Jace Jorgensen doubled twice, singled, drove in two runs and scored twice; James Birkel singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Adrian Contrares singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times; Brodey Munter singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice; Herwin Bernal singled, drove in a run and scored; Mason Heikes singled and scored; Taven Ocampo accounted for a RBI and three runs scored; Chase Sturm added two RBI and a run scored as Alejandro Archundia scored twice.

Munter picked up the win in three innings allowing five earned runs off five hits while striking out five batters and walking two. Archundia worked two innings allowing three earned runs off five hits while striking out and walking one batter each.

The Wayne White Broncos will next face #6 Wakefield in the consolation game on Friday, July 24. #2 Pender topped Wakefield 16-3 and will face the Patriots in the championship game also Friday night. The Wayne Blue Broncos ended their season Tuesday in the loser’s bracket.
