WAYNE/WAKEFIELD – A pair of area high school basketball teams will close out their pre-holiday schedule on Tuesday, December 21 and both be carried on air.
First, on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 Wayne High will host Guardian Angels Central Catholic while the Wakefield vs. Hartington-Newcastle games can be heard on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9. Both games will also air online at waynedailynews.com Tuesday evening.
The Wayne High girls varsity team will open the doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. from the high school gym at the same time as the JV boys game from the elementary school. The Wayne High boys will follow around 6:15 p.m. at the high school during the same time as the JV girls game.
The Blue Devil girls had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday following a 33-25 road loss to O’Neill and are now 3-4 on the season. GACC last won at Norfolk Catholic on Saturday (76-36) to improve to 6-1.
The Wayne boys are undefeated on the road thanks to a recent 55-43 win at O’Neill to improve to 6-1. They’ve won three straight on the road since falling on the home court to Wahoo on December 11. The Bluejays have won back-to-back after starting their season 0-3 and won at Crofton (44-33) 10 days ago improving to 2-3.
For the Wakefield games, they’ll start at 4:45 p.m. with the JV girls followed by the boys playing two quarters each. The varsity girls game will tipoff around 6 p.m. followed by the boys.
The Wakefield girls suffered a 58-49 loss to Westwood of Iowa Monday night falling to 4-2 which snapped a four-game winning streak. Hartington-Newcastle enters Monday 3-3 after winning at Walthill last Friday (62-21).
The Trojan boys secured their fourth straight home win improving to 5-1 thanks to a 74-44 home win over Westwood, IA Monday night. The Wildcats are 1-5 and recently lost at Walthill (79-61) last Friday.
