WHS is 9-2 on the season and are currently on a six-game winning streak as they’ll run into another top opponent of #2 Wahoo (11-0). The Warriors defeated Wayne in week one of the season 47-0 but Wayne High held Wahoo scoreless in the first quarter and besides two long scoring plays in the second, trailed 17-0 at half.

A year ago, Wahoo defeated Wayne in Wayne 16-0 while in 2017 the Warriors won a 42-8 in a quarterfinal game over Wayne in Wayne.

Wayne then went on a three-game winning streak after losing to Wahoo before falling to the #4 seed in the playoffs, Pierce (42-0) on September 27 being their last loss.

The Blue Devils won at #6 Kearney Catholic (7-3), 28-21 to open their postseason competition. Wayne High has dominated the ground game and every touchdown they’ve scored has been on a rushing strike during their six-game winning streak.

In the playoffs, Wahoo has cruised past #15 Boys Town (56-0) and #7 Columbus Scotus (48-28) and will be playing in their third home game of the season where they’re now 7-0 (4-0 on road). At home, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 313-19 including four shutouts.

Wahoo is competing in their 24 playoff in program history (fifth straight, 15th since 2003) and have lost in two straight semifinals (Aurora 35-10 last year and Norfolk Catholic 14-10 in 2017) in search for their first championship appearance. Other semifinal losses came in 2011 to Platteview (21-10) and 1995 to Milford (34-14).

Wayne High is competing in state playoff competition for the second time in three years (four time since 2010/12 time in program history) and have previously gone 2-11 before now going 2-0 in the 2019 playoffs. The Blue Devils will also be looking for their first state championship appearance.
