Wayne Volleyball Suffers Five-Set Home Loss, Mid State Conference Tourney Begins Monday

WAYNE – With the Mid State Conference bracket to be released Friday morning, the Wayne High volleyball team closed out their regular season Thursday night.

From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, the Blue Devils welcomed in Battle Creek.

After Wayne High won the first two sets of 25-22, 25-22, Battle Creek then answered with three straight victories of 25-20, 25-20 and 15-12 in the fifth to secure the road victory. The Bravettes improved to 20-7 while Wayne High fell to 14-10 and closed out their home schedule with a 6-2 record.


Double-double performers came from Rubie Klausen with 23 kills and 31 digs; Kate Hill added 17 kills and 11 digs while Kiara Krusemark posted 44 set assists and 24 digs to go along with two kills. Sydney Redden finished with a team-high 46 digs, Reagan Backer tacked on 25 digs and Faith Powicki added 16 digs.

Mady Sievers had three kills and nine digs; Courtney Brink finished with two kills as Anna Kaup tallied a kill and four digs

Redden, Hill and Backer all recorded a service ace. Kaup came away with two blocks, Klausen had two blocks (one solo) as Sievers, Krusemark and Brink all finished with a block.

Wayne High will next compete in the Mid State Conference Volleyball Tournament slated for Monday, October 18 – Thursday, October 21 in Pierce and Norfolk Catholic.
