Wayne Varsity Teams Bowling Well Entering Districts, Janke Records 290

WAYNE – With district bowling slated for Wednesday, the Wayne High girls and boys varsity bowling teams closed out their inaugural season last Friday with a home sweep.

From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed in Howells-Dodge.

The Blue Devil girls improved to 16-2 and the top spot entering districts and state while the Wayne boys are now 13-7 as both teams won their match, 20-1.

The Wayne girls got off to a hot start on Friday night and never looked back. Game one found all five girls winning individual matches enroute to a 782-432 pin total victory. Winning matches in game one were Jamie Janke (199), Jersi Jensen/Catherine Rutenbeck (162), Andi Belt (150), Natalie Bentjen (142) and Brianna Nissen (129).

Wayne played well again in game two and won the pin total match 818-570. Winning matches for Wayne in game two were Jamie Janke (290), Andi Belt (166), Natalie Bentjen (145) and Catherine Rutenbeck (116). Other scoring saw Riley Haschke (101).

The highlight of the night was Jamie Janke’s 290 score. Janke started game two with a nine-spare and then went on to throw 11 strikes in a row. She went on to throw the first frame of the Baker style game and threw another strike.  That made 12 in a row which is what one needs for a perfect game. Wayne went on to win the Baker style match 160-105 and the overall match 20-1.

The Wayne boys got out to a sluggish start at home. They battled throughout the game and posted a 779-624 pin total victory over the visitors from Howells-Dodge. Winning their individual matches in game one were Tanner Sievers (179), Peyton Riesberg/Shayne Geidner (164), Calvin Starzl (161), Brogan Foote (145) and James Dorcey (130).

Game two found the bowling a little better with Wayne winning the pin total match 843-753. Winning individual matches in game two were Brogan Foote (182), Tanner Sievers (171), Shayne Geidner (169) and Peyton Riesberg/Jacob Anderson (141). Other scoring for Wayne came from Calvin Starzl/James Dorcey (182). The Wayne boys went on to win the Baker style match 194-128 to win the overall match 20-1.

The Wayne High varsity bowling teams will next compete in districts Wednesday in Norfolk starting at 9 a.m. Individual girls (9 a.m.) and individual boys (2 p.m.) bowling state championships will be held on Monday, February 8; boys team on Tuesday, February 9 at 9 a.m. and girls team on Wednesday, February 10 at 9 a.m. all at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln.
