Wayne Uses Late Run Production To Shut Out South Sioux

SOUTH SIOUX – For the second time this week, the Wayne High softball team took to the road as they competed with a Class B opponent.

From South Sioux City, WHS took on the Cardinals Thursday evening.

Following a pair of scoreless innings early, Wayne High posted innings of single and three-runs to win 8-0. WHS has won seven straight and are now 7-1 on the season.

Brianna Nissen recorded a pair of singles and three RBI while Brooklyn Kruse singled, drove in three runs and scored for Wayne. Mikaela McManigal singled, drove in a run and scored three times; Hope O’Reilly singled and drove in a run; Taytum Sweetland singled and scored; Logan Miller singled as Nikki Fertig, Virginia Kniesche and Hailey Schroeder all scored.

Kendall Dorey picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing one hit while striking out 13 batters and walking one.

The Wayne High softball team will be off until Tuesday, September 8 as they’ll next visit Columbus Lakeview.
