PIERCE – With a few members competing in the Norfolk Track Classic this Thursday and the Wayne High track & field team participating in the Mid State Conference meet on Saturday, the Blue Devils were also in action on Tuesday.
From Pierce, WHS joined six teams during the Pierce Invite.
A handful of younger members of the team posted 21 PRs.
The Wayne High girls finished seventh with 34 points while the Blue Devil boys placed seventh with 23 points.
Norfolk High won the girls division with 118 points, followed by Norfolk Catholic in second (90); Battle Creek took third (84); Boone Central placed fourth (67) and O’Neill rounded out the top five teams with 44 points.
The Wayne High girls were led by Delaney Kruse with a first place finish in the discus (95’ 9”) to go along with a runner-up mark in the shot put (32’ 5”).
Both top relay finishes placed fourth being the 4×100 (Frantzdie Barner, Delaney Kruse, Olivia Mrsny and Taytem Ellis) in 56.28 along with the 4×400 (Barner, Mrsny, Ellis and Yama (Nyamalo) Kantai) in 4:54.93.
Norfolk Catholic won the boys division with 141 points, followed by Battle Creek in second (124); Norfolk High took third (85); Boone Central placed fourth (76) and O’Neill rounded out the top five teams with 47 points.
The Wayne High boys were led by Mason Ley with a second place finish in the pole vault (11’).
The 4×800-meter relay (Ley, Braden Wheat, Parker Kesting and Colson Nelsen) recorded the top relay finish in third place (10:11.6).
As of the Monday update, Kyla Krusemark (800-meter run); Jala Krusemark and Laura Hasemann (3200-meter run) Brooklyn Kruse (shot put and discus), the 4×800-meter girls relay team; Sedjro Agoumba (400-meter dash and 200-meter dash); Alex Phelps (300-meter hurdles) as well as Jesus Zavala and Ethan Wibben (3200-meter run) were listed as qualifiers to compete in the Norfolk Track Classic on Thursday, April 28.
