Wayne State Women’s, Men’s Track & Field Results From 1/30 Bearcat Open

MARYVILLE, MO – With a Friday meet approaching this weekend, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s track & field team recently competed in the Bearcat Open last Saturday.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, the event attracted 12 teams in NCAA Division II, NAIA and Junior College ranks from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas.

The Wildcat women dominated the throwing events as WSC had six of the seven finishers in the weight throw. Mckenzie Scheil took first place with an NCAA provisional mark of 60’ 7 ¾” that now ranks 10th in NCAA Division II. Jadin Wagner also had an NCAA provisional mark of 57’ 8 ½” and placed third.

Nicole Heeren took fourth in the weight throw at 51’ 9 ¼” followed by Kenzie Sullivan in fifth (50’ 8 ¾”), Sarah Stang sixth (49’ 3 ¾”) and Kendra Paasch seventh (48’ 4”).

In the shot put, Scheil posted a first-place finish with a top mark of 45’ 6 ½” to lead a WSC group that had four of the top six finishes. Wagner came in second at 45’ 3 ¾” followed by Sullivan in third (42’ 7”) and Paasch in sixth at 38’ 8 ¼”.

The other Wildcat event win came from Megan Hansen, who crossed the line first in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.94 seconds.

Jordyn Pester had a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (59.01) with fifth place finishes coming from Brooke Solomon in the 5,000-meter run (19:200.60) and Brianna Crouch in the 1,000-meter run at 3:10.19.

Sixth place finishers included Makenna Taake in the long jump (16’ 1 ¾”) and Alison Stineman in the one mile run at 5:50.07.

Kim Johnson took seventh in the 1,000-meter run (3:21.76) with Emily Smollen taking seventh in the long jump (15’ 11 ¾”).

Eighth place finishers were Hanna Lazure in the high jump clearing 5’ ¼”, Riana Noelle in the triple jump (33’ 9 ¼”), Keyla Sambo in the long jump (15’ 9 ½”) and Amanda Mote in the one mile run at 6:07.23.

 

The Wayne State men’s indoor track & field team had a 1-2-5 finish in the weight throw led by Cade Kalkowski who took first place with a mark of 65’ 0”. Cole Christoffersen took second at 61’ 2” with Grant Fritsch placing fifth at 48’ 0”.

In the high jump, Dylan Kneifl cleared a season-best 6’ 6” to come in second place with Aaron English clearing 6’ 2” to finish fourth.

Brock Hegarty recorded a second-place finish in the one mile run at 4:25.19 with Brandon Mundorf placing eighth in a time of 4:37.70.

In the 5,000-meter run, senior Bailey Peckham was third at 16:02.37 with Collin Kotz seventh (16:49.02).

Other top Wildcat finishers were Mikhail Sands fifth in the long jump (21’ 5 ¼”), Noah Lilly sixth in the 60-meter hurdle finals in 8.74 seconds and Michael Kueny sixth in the 600-yard dash at 1:16.51.

The next meet for Wayne State will be on Friday, February 5 when the Wildcats travel to Fargo, North Dakota and compete in the Bison Open at North Dakota State.
