Wayne State Women To Conclude Pre-Holiday Break With In-State Opponent

WAYNE – After sweeping a home weekend to close out the pre-Christmas NSIC schedule, the Wayne State College women’s basketball team will wrap-up their non-conference games with a mid-week contest.

From Rice Auditorium, a part of a four-game home stand, WSC will entertain Midland University from Fremont tonight.

The ‘Cats recently improved to 7-3 overall (3-2 NSIC) with wins over Bemidji State of 85-71 on Saturday and a Sunday afternoon win over Minnesota Crookston (88-83). WSC is also 3-1 in non-conference play with wins over Northwest Missouri State (75-58) and Nebraska-Kearney (69-52) on November 9-10 while splitting games with a loss to Truman State (67-58) and a win over Quincy University (69-62) on November 16-17.

Midland University just improved to 8-6 with a non-conference win over Presentation College Tuesday late afternoon in Fremont by the final score of 73-61. The Warriors are rated #24 from the December 11 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

After defeating a top-10 Morningside team on December 5 (63-58), the Warriors dropped a pair of GPAC games at #5 Northwestern College (95-71) on December 8 and a home against #13 Dordt College (94-93/OT). Midland University is 4-5 in their respective conference.

Wednesday night’s game will be an exhibition contest for Midland with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.

Both teams will then be off until Sunday, December 30. Midland University will visit Nebraska Wesleyan University at 2 p.m. in Lincoln while WSC will host Augustana at 1:30/3:30 p.m.
