Wayne State Women Outscored By Eight In Second Half During Conference Opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The NSIC season began for the Wayne State College women’s basketball team over the weekend.

From the Sioux Falls Arena on Saturday, WSC visited Augustana University.

Augie took the early lead of 16-12 in the opening quarter before the ‘Cats bounced back with a 24-16 second quarter. At the break, WSC led 36-32. The Vikings then tied the game up with a 25-21 third quarter while also winning the fourth (24-16). Final found Augustana winning 81-73 to improve to 8-1 (1-0 NSIC) as Wayne State College fell to 4-2 (0-1 NSIC).

Brittany Bongartz led WSC in scoring with 15 points on 5-10 shooting including 5-5 from the foul line. Erin Norling and Haley Vesey both added 14 points, Andrea Larson tallied nine points, Maggie Lowe picked up eight points and Halley Busse recorded seven points. Kylie Hammer, Amelia Ivester and Taylor Reiner all had two points.

Ivester paced the ‘Cats in rebounding with nine and three blocks as Vesey and Larson added five boards each. Busse led WSC in assists with eight while five different players tacked on a steal each.

WSC shot 25-62 (40.3%) from the floor, 7-27 (25.9%) from behind the arc and 16-23 (69.6%) from the foul line.

Lynsey Prosser paced Augie in scoring with 15 points as Shelby Selland added 14 points and nine boards. Abby Hora and Vishe Rabb both scored 12 points while Hana Metoxen tallied 10 points and nine rebounds.

Augie shot 31-72 (43.1%) from the field, 12-33 (36.4%) from the three-point line and 7-11 (63.6%) from the charity stripe.

The Wayne State women will join their men on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8. WSC will visit Upper Iowa Friday at 5:30 p.m. and play at Winona State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
