WAYNE – With the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships in the books, Wayne State College concludes the Top 25 Coaches Poll with their second-highest ever national ranking to end the season in school history.
According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, WSC ended the 2022 season ranked fourth in the final AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Top 25 Coaches Poll released Monday afternoon.
The Wildcats collected 972 points in voting conducted by 47 Division II coaches from across the country. It marks the 13th time in the last 16 years WSC has ended the year with a national ranking. WSC finished third in 2015.
#1 West Texas A&M (33-4) moved up eight spots in the final rankings as the NCAA DII National Champions following a four-set victory over #2 Concordia-St. Paul (31-6) who moved up one spot. #3 MSU Denver (30-2) fell two spots in the final rankings.
Other NSIC teams joining WSC and CSP include #5 St. Cloud State (28-6, up two spots); #7 Minnesota Duluth (27-5, down one spot) and #12 Southwest Minnesota State (23-6, down two spots). Augustana University (six points) ended the year receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.
#4 Wayne State College finished the 2022 season with a 30-3 record and captured the Northern Sun Conference regular season title (19-1) for the first time in school history. It’s just the fourth time in school history WSC won 30 games in a season. WSC was ranked in every AVCA poll this season and spent five weeks ranked #1 in the country.
